6-Pack To Go, Season 4, Travel - Where to Drink

Episode 082 | 6 Pack To-Go Series: St. Augustine Bars with the Boozy Bros

Hello lushes! The Boozy Blondes are asking the Boozy Bros to fill their 6-packs with their favorite St. Augustine bars in this 6 Pack To-Go episode. Rainer and Phil have plenty of experience enjoying libations around their town and break down their favorites for you.

Rainer leads the episode through downtown St. Augustine and eventually moseys over the bridge. What do you think of his 6-Pack?

  1. Forgotten Tonic | upscale drinks and food with an intimate environment. Big fans of the owner John (listen to John’s interview from Season 1! It’s Episode 004) and love the holiday theming around Halloween and Christmas!
  2. Casa Reina | located right on the bay front downtown, great tequila drinks, upscale but relaxed atmosphere (if you like tequila drinks, listen to the most recent 6-pack episode with Jose of 4 Ever Acres Kitchen!)
  3. Barley Republic | Irish pub downtown with a great happy hour and live music. Bars upstairs and downstairs with music on both levels.
  4. Stogies | cigar bar with a great outdoor space. Big fans of the owner Jeff and love the amazing bands he brings in to play here! This is an OG and the group really appreciates how it’s remained a classic downtown for over 25 years!
  5. Tides Grill & Oyster Co (AKA Dunes Cracker!) | This bar is super nostalgic for Rainer from when he first lived on the beach across from here in the mid-2000s. Listen to Episode 023 | Pub Pedal: St. Augustine Beach Bars: Jack’s BBQ, Salt Life, Beachcombers, Sunset Grille, Mango Mango’s and More! for more details about Tides and other great beach bars!
  6. Conch House | Restaurant + bar + marina, this place is another classic. Between Reggae Sundays, killer painkillers and goombay smashes, tree house dining and crow’s nest bar space, Conch House always dishes out a great time.

Rainer throws in a “bonus beer” to his pack and gives Jack’s a honorable mention – a definite group favorite. You can hear more about this episode in the above mentioned Episode 023.

Phil takes the mic next and fills his 6-pack with any place that serves beer and food.
#priorities
How do you rank his 6-Pack?

  1. Ice Plant | step back in time at the Ice Plant which shares a space with the St. Augustine Distillery. Enjoy amazing craft cocktails and delicious food in this swanky spot!
  2. Dog Rose Brewing Co | smack dab in the heart of Lincolnville, Phil loves the location full of bar games like shuffleboard and darts. Now hosting a permanent food truck, this place meets Phil’s criteria of must serve beer + food. Listen to Episode 062 | St. Augustine Craft Brewers’ Festival to hear an interview from Dog Rose owner Courtney Murr! The Boozy Blondes also dish about this spot in Episode 003 | Pub Pedal: St. Augustine Craft Breweries: Bog, Dog Rose, Ancient City and Old Coast Ales – jump in the way back machine to hear about these local haunts!
  3. Bog Brewing | The group agrees this brewery has the best logo in town – and also a great outdoor space, and of course, beer! You can hear more about Bog in the above mentioned Episode 003. Pro tip – order the torta from the permanent food truck on site, Taco My Blessing.
  4. It’s a match with Rainer! Conch House!
  5. It’s another match! Forgotten Tonic! Phil dares to say, Forgotten Tonic serves THE BEST cocktails in town! (The group agrees!)
  6. Old Coast Ales | Dog friendly and serving delicious brews, this brewery is at the top of Phil’s list. Order a “Christina!” It’s half kombucha, half light beer! The group loves Osprey Tacos next door too. Listen to Episode 003 to hear more about Old Coast and the infamous guac drop by the crew’s bestie, Elias!

So you heard it from some locals – these are the favorite bars in St. Augustine, and the Boozy Blondes agree! The boys filled great 6-packs! Have you visited their town? What are some of you favorite places to stop? Email the Boozy Blondes with your favorites!

Season 2, Special Events

Episode 044 | St. Augustine Alligator Farm CROCtoberfest Brew at the Zoo

Listen here!

If you’ve been listening to the Boozy Blondes over these past two seasons, you’ve learned they love their food and booze festivals! This episode reviews another fun festival – right in their own backyard at the St. Augustine Alligator Farm Zoological Park! If you like booze, local eats, music and animals (especially reptiles), this fest is for you!

Similar to the Epcot Food & Wine Festival in Episode 016 and Busch Gardens Bier Fest in Episode 015, CROCtoberfest pairs great drinks with great munchies at a place that offers extra entertainment (in this case a zoo!) to keep fest-goers busy while they enjoy sampling around the park. Unlike Epcot and Busch Gardens, there is much less real estate to cover as you wind through the park to the sampling booths, and major bonus, everything is included with your admission ticket!

The DOE is Lavender Lemonade by Jacksonville’s Camp Craft Cocktails gifted by Field Drinker Tanya to the Boozy Blondes (thanks, Tanya!). These cute concoctions housed in mason jars come in a variety of fun flavors – just add your choice of liquor! Easy and delicious!

As stated earlier, all food, drinks, animal viewing and music are included with the price of admission – plus you get a souvenir mason jar glass! Tickets are $75 for general admission and $150 for VIP – and $40 for designated drivers! If you’re reading this before October 7, 2023 (2023 festival date), click here to see ticket options. (If you’re reading this after that date, be sure to check back next year for ticket options and details!)

CROCtoberfest announces vendors on its Alligator Farm social media sites, so be sure to follow them on Facebook and Instagram. In 2022, the girls visited all the booths at the festival! #overachievers

The girls talk about the pros and cons of this event but both agree, they would love the opportunity to attend again and would highly recommend this festival to all their boozy friends and designated drivers out there! Listen to this episode to hear about all drinks and food the girls sampled and some tips and tricks for attending.

PROSCONS

Season 1, Travel - Where to Drink

Episode 003 | Pub Pedal: St. Augustine Craft Breweries: Bog, Dog Rose, Ancient City and Old Coast Ales

Listen here!

The Boozy Blondes explore their hometown breweries in St. Augustine, Florida, in this episode. St. Augustine is home to four craft breweries and the girls pedaled their bikes to all four – the best local breweries in St. Augsutine!

Boozy Blondes Outside of Bog

The DOE is Dream Pop from Bog Brewing Company. Dream Pop is a Farmhouse Ale aged 8 months in oak and finished on organic pink rose petals.

Our partner for this episode is Winc! Click here for a discount off your first order!

This first stop on the St. Augustine Craft Brewery Pub Pedal was Bog. The blondes split three beers here: Blueberry Lemon sour (5.5%), Mixed Culture Saison (6.7%) and Automatic Midnight (19.6 Imperial Stout). They arrived around lunchtime, and lucky for them, Tacos My Blessings is a permanent food truck behind Bog.

Boozy Blondes Outside of Dog Rose Brewing

From Bog the girls rode to Dog Rose Brewing Company where they enjoyed victory on the shuffleboard table while sharing a flight. Rhapsody in Red (American amber – 5.2%), Helles in a Bucket (bock – 7.9%), Bertha Brown Ale (brown ale – 6.3%) and Lions Head Honey Sour (sour – 5.2%). They say the honey in this beer came from bees in the lions head. The girls think this is a lion’s head from the Bridge of Lions in downtown St. Augustine, and found this reference from 2020.

Here the girls met Disco Witch Brewing owners Jeff and Shelly. Disco Witch is scheduled to open Spring 2022 in Yule, Florida. A grand opening celebration is scheduled in May!

Dog Rose opened in October of 2017 and was named one of the Top 20 Best New Breweries in the US by USA Today in 2020!

Ancient City Brewing Beers

The next stop for the blondes was Ancient City Brewing on Cathedral Place right downtown. This is the location of Ancient City’s tap house. Its brewhouse is west of town on Agricultural Center Drive by the St. Augustine outlets.

The girls had one beer each here – Chrissy had Augustine’s Orange Amber Ale (5.3%) and Molly ordered Ponce’s Pale Ale (5.2%). Ancient opened in May 2015.

For the final stop the girls pedaled hard over the Bridge of Lions to Old Coast Ales. Fun fact (that the girls learned too late), if you ride your bike to Old Coast, you earn 10% off your beer! Here Molly ordered the No A’postrophe (amber ale – 7.2%) and Chrissy was ordered the Static Haze (New England IPA – 6.4%).

Boozy Blondes at Old Coast Ales

Old Coast opened in February 2017 and is neighbors to Osprey Tacos. Tacos were ordered and Molly owes an apology to the blondes’ friend Elias. She blamed him in the episode for dropping the guacamole, which exploded everywhere, when really it was Phil! The girls do a lot of research (ahem, drink a lot) so they always have the boys and/or other friends around to keep an eye on them and clear up minor details later. 😉

These 4 breweries join forces during the holiday season. St. Augustine is known for the Nights of Lights, and these breweries started the Nights of Pints. During the Nights of Lights (typically from the end of November through January), you can purchase the Nights of Pints package at one of the four breweries which includes a t-shirt and punch card. The punch card is good for one free beer at each brewery!

If you happen to be in St. Augustine and are visiting Bog, Dog Rose, Ancient City or Old Coast, let us know! Send us a message and let us know your favorite!

** Since we recorded this episode, Bog no longer allows pets inside. Please call the breweries before bringing Fido so you are aware of the most current rules.
